Quane Surfboards
circa 1960
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand.
Dennis Quane
Henry Marfleet wrote, March 2007:
"I have an early spoon, shaper is Duane." (sic)
Henry contributed the template and decal images.

1960s decal, with Malibu copying Hobie Sbs, on an early 1970s spooned-deck knee-board.

See  Williamson(2000):
Surfing in New Zealand, 1950 -1970

Henry contacted Quane Surfboards and Dennis replied:
 "... it was probably made around 66 - 68.
We only made 3 or 4 of these, they were copied of photo of George  Grenoughs kneeboard., he was starting to play with these designs in Queensland about this time.
The board was made in our Redcliffs factory, designed and made by Dave Poyner and myself.
Dave was my main shaper at this stage.
Not many of these around today, real collectors piece.
Great to hear from you.
Regards
Denis Quane"

Q Stix Surfboards
??
Victoria
Thanks to Murray Boyd, who in January 2011 noted:
"Greg Brown learnt to shape under Kym Thompson and Maurice Cole at Watercooled surfboards in Torquay , he then went on to establish 'Roar' followed by 'Gash' surfboards.
Mark Phipps learnt his trade during this period.
Gash  is still operating today.
Greg has also been one of the core shapers of Quiksilver's retail surfboards from the beginning of that particular program (initially called Q stix)."
