Invitation to Induction of Prefects
19th February 1969.

Note:
Assuming this invitation was to parents of the inductees, I cannot explain this letter.
I did not seek (or declined?) nomination as a prefect.

I did, however, have unlimited access to the hallowed Prefect's Room courtesy of the vice-captain, Jocelyn O'Conor.

Graham Pugh, J.S. O'Sullivan and Chris Fyfe.

J.S. O'Sullivan's A Most Unique Ruffian (1968) recounts the trial of Frederick Deeming, a serial killer who murdered one wife and four children in England, but was hung for the murder of a second wife in Melbourne in 1892.
Suspected at the time as being Jack the Ripper, forensic investigation
in 2011 of what was thought to be Ned Kelly’s skull held by Melbourne Gaol, revealed it was more likely Deeming.
Mr. O'Sullivan
was my Modern History teacher for the HSC 1968-1969, and he would regularly bring his reference books and copious hand-written notes to class to work on the book.

1st Row
Geoff Cater, Grant Glover, Bill Heath, Donald Thomson, David Martin.

Geoff recalls that, as the most skilled player, David Martin was the team captain and centre forward, and I note his trophy is three times larger than the others.
At the other end of the field, Dennis Coates was the goal-keeper.

Recollections
Grant Glover (edited):
My dad was known as Buck to all and sundry and I wonder now what would happen to him if caught driving our team and many others to a game in the back of his Moree Meat truck- he would of been on the front page of the Telegraph (Shock and Horror) for having 15 unrestrained kids locked in the back in the dark.
Oh how we have changed.
(Geoff thinks that Grant possibly overstates the illegality of what we did, at the time my brother David and I regularly rode unrestrained in the back tray of Frank's Morris ute.)
Dad was tied up with the club for many years and was a life member of Enfield Rovers.
I think he and some other parents were involved in setting it up because if my memory is correct the first year I played it was called South Strathfield and run by and old guy who was also a referee and was poorly organised.
Then it became Enfield Rovers and dad was involved in the committee, coaching, selling countless raffle tickets and doubles where you won money if your ticket had the last two numbers of first lottery drawn on the Monday morning.

Geoff remembers one afternoon when Buck, and another club official, turned up at the Cater-family home, very excited to have just received permission from England to use the Rovers name.

Grant Glover recalls:
His father's Christian name was Raymond George, his mother Lavina Matilda Melva answering to Melva.
The girls we partnered to the ball were sisters, I am sure with mine being the older less fetching one; but I have no idea of their names.

Geoff recalls that at the first debutante rehearsal, the boys were lined up and then matched with their partners by height; and much to the chagrin of the other boys, by luck his partner was most fetching.
The young lady was extremely pleasant but, although I was clearly smitten, dismissive of my attentions; she and her sister (from Bankstown?) were preoccupied with their weekend visits to Cronulla Beach and the local surfie boys.
This may brief encounter may have had a significant impact on my life.

Igor Moiseyev’s The Last Vision.

The program also included Coppélia, with principal dancer Barbara Chambers and the company's artistic director, Robert Helpmann, dancing the role of Doctor Coppélius.
The third item was The Display, produced and choreographed by Robert Helpmann, which premiered in March 1964 at Her Majesty's Theatre, Adelaide.
With the story based around the native Australian lyrebird, music by Malcolm Williamson, an all-Australian cast, and sets and costumes by artist Sidney Nolan, the work has been described as the first wholly Australian ballet.

Ken Muir transferred to SSHS (from Belmore Boys?) in 1968 to complete his HSC.
