Swallow-tails
- four ways betterYou get extra planing area under you, a straighter outline, reduced area behind you, which deliver, in order, greater speed in flat water, longer reach in your turn (but tighter turns if you want them) greater holding power and stalling power (like a pintail). That's three. The fourth is unique. Rail to rail transfer, especially off the lip, is greatly improved. The tail never "binds", it slides right back in there so smoothly. Or you can hold it up in the lip so late, then release it whenever you want and come back in. You haven't felt it until you've ridden one. - Bob McTavish. More on Swallow Tails next month.
