Bells Beach Contest Vic. (Easter)
The entry fees were increased from $1 to $3 with a record entry of 250 contestants, 160 in the open division. 1st Nat Young 2nd Ted Spencer 3rd Baddy Treloar 4th Mark Warren (1970 NSW Junior Champion) 5th Keith Paull Midget Farrelly withdrew from the contest at the quarter-finals, after surfing superbly in his first two rounds (Witzig). Notable absentees were Peter Drouyn and Wayne Lynch . International competitors included Rodney Sumpter, from England but ex-Avalon Beach, and current US champion Corky Carroll and Dru Harrison from California. |
