MAKING SURFOPLANES SAFE.
Hand Grips Suggested
SOUTHPORT. January 13.
At the' monthly meeting of the Point Danger branch of the Surf Life Saving Association of Australia at Burlelgh Heads today it was decided to ask the manufacturers of surfoplanes to make the surfoplanes safer for children by affixing suitable hand grips at the sides.
It was stated that at the present time they were a source of danger to children, who were often washed off the surfoplanes, owing to the absence of hand grips, and had to be rescued by the life-savers.

Sailing Surfboard
FOR SYDNEY BEACHES?
SYDNEY. Today.
Tom Blake, champion surf rider of Hawaii, invented the sailing surfboard, which may be seen on Sydney beaches this season.
It consists of a wooden socket strapped to the board near the nose.
A small mast rigged with a sail fits into this socket.
The surfer lies behind the sail and controls the sheet with his right foot, steering the board with his left.

Inflated Notions for the Sea
Contribute to Sport or Repose
Coming in a variety of shapes and sizes, as they do this year,
the rubber water-monsters, surf rings, balls, and surf-boards that
are on view in the shops are useful accessories for the seaside
holiday, as they may be used either for sport and to get rid of
superfluous energy or to float blissfully and lazily on the waves
without effort. These articles of seaside equipment take up little
room in luggage, as they collapse into small space, and are easily
inflated when required.
FOR children, of course, the sea
beasts and the swimming lings
are high in favour. The smaller
rings are to be had for the modest
sum of 9d., while a larger size costs
about 1/11 or 2/6. . The round ones,
like lifebuoys, are embellished with
ornamental designs; the square ones
appear to be made of a rubber Union
Jack, with a hole cut in the centre.
As for the sea monsters, such
sharks, crocodiles, turtles, and whales,
were never seen in any aquarium, but
that, ' perhaps, 'only adds to their at
tractiveness in the eyes of the juniors.
Beach balls are bigger ' and more col
ourful than ever, and are equally
popular with adults and children.
They range in size from a 10 inch at
less than 1/ to a large size at 1/6.
Small rubber surf boards may be
had at 2/11, and these, too, will act
as supports for non-swimmers. Bet
ter still is the pneumatic mattress,
which may be used for sun-bathing
and afterwards, when this has been
thoroughly enjoyed, tne happy owner
may pick up her featherweight Li-Lo.

A NASTY accident happened to
Queenscliff member Rus Fisher recently.
He took a dumper on his surf board, the board diving into tho sand when the wave 'cracked':
It shot back quickly, and struck Ruso a terrific blow on the mouth.
His teeth cut straight through his bottom lip and stuck hard in the board for some seconds, deep teeth indentations still bearing witness to his diet.
But the mishap was no joke to Rus; and he had three stitches inserted in the wound inside his mouth and three more on the outside.
The miracle is that he did not lose any teeth.
